Experience the River Maas as a source of stories, art, film, and music during Cinema Mosa at Bonnefanten on Sunday 28 September.

Bird’s-Eye View of the River Maas

Date: Sunday, September 28
Time: 11:00 – 16:00
Entrance: free with valid admission ticket

The River Maas flows not only through the landscape, but also through stories, memories, and film footage that have shaped generations. Cinema Mosa 2025 presents a multifaceted tribute to this river through film screenings, talks, live music, and encounters at surprising locations along the River Maas.

On Sunday 28 September, Cinema Mosa lands at Bonnefanten, where the ecological art project mini Maas Island De Weerd has enriched the museum’s forecourt since May. For this day, the project will be extended with a varied programme inside and outside.

Programme

11:00 – 16:00
Explore the temporary garden of De Weerd and step into De Hooiwagen (Haywagon), a mobile museum and small library filled with objects, artworks, and stories. Farmland is brought into the city for one day, thanks to this initiative by artists Stefan Cools and Sandra van den Beuken.

14:00
Screening of the film In vogelvlucht over de Maas, a production of the Province of Limburg. Helicopter footage from 1994 is combined with recent drone footage of the river landscape. Pianist James Malikey provides live musical accompaniment, inspired by the rhythm of the River Maas.

15:00
Lecture (Dutch spoken) by anthropologist and author Wim Peumans on his book De Maas. Het verhaal van een rivier. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for signing and conversation.

The day is part of Cinema Mosa 2025, a film festival taking place from 26 September to 4 October at a variety of locations along the River Maas.
